The Web Summit was co-founded by <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paddy Cosgrave,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">David Kelly a journalist and Daire Hickey an accountant. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Web Summit conference originated in Ireland and was held in Dublin for the first five years since its inception. It caused disagreement when it left Dublin for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Portugal last year with a three-year deal.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This year the Web Summit will be held in the MEO Arena in Lisbon, Portugal from the 6<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the 9<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> November 2017. Dublin continues to be the headquarters of the Web Summit with its office in Tramway House. Since its establishment &nbsp;it has grown rapidly as initially 400 attended to now more than 50, 000 with representation from over 160 countries in 2016. It is currently regarded as Europe\u2019s largest and principal technological event. It is anticipated that over 60,000 attendees will go to Lisburn this year. Paddy Cosgrove CEO stated the relocation has allowed the Web Summit to develop and concentrate on new areas for example <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">policymaking and autotech.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Other global technology events are organised by Web Summit and include <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MoneyConf in Madrid, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Collision in the US and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rise in Hong Kong.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The theme of the Web Summit conference is about internet technology and includes attendance from large and small companies. The attendees are a mixture of CEOs and founders of global start-up technological companies plus related businesses. The concept of Web Summits events is international with other venues in New Orleans, Hong Kong and Madrid. Over the years the speakers were well-known personalities such as Al Gore <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Former Vice President of the USA, Mark Hurd CEO Microsoft, Sean Rad Co \u2013founder &amp; Chairman Tinder. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2016 the Web Summit recorded that more than <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">53,000 attended Lisbon and was double the attendance of the web Summit which was held in Dublin in 2015. It is anticipated that 60,000 will attend this year and will include political leaders, tech company CEOs and other well know personalities from the world of sports and fashion. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than 2,000 media from over a hundred markets attended the Web Summit last year. Included were editors from the world\u2019s most powerful publications. Also reporters from leading technology and trade publication blogs attended. &nbsp;Attendance at the Web Summit 2017 has the potential of unmatched connections to users all over the world. In addition, there is a big demand for marketing and content-related positions such as pay-per-click (PPC) and search engine optimisation (SEO) specialists, brand managers and content professionals.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"crosshead\">Primary challenge<\/h4>\n<p class=\"no_name selectionShareable\">On the agency side, the recruitment specialist reports strong demand for strategic planners, web usability experts, analytics specialists and digital account managers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"no_name selectionShareable\">Prosperity, which said it was seeing a substantial number of foreign candidates rejecting a move to Ireland because of the rental crisis, said many Irish-based digital and technology companies are in expansion mode.<\/p>\n<p class=\"no_name selectionShareable\">\u201cSourcing talent is often their primary challenge, and if that challenge cannot be addressed, many of these companies can suffer an impediment to growth and even viability,\u201d said Mr Mullan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"no_name selectionShareable\">\u201cThat challenge is being met with strong salaries, benefits, sponsorship, relocation packages, and in many cases the opportunity for candidates to align their career with strong brands or highly innovative digital services and products,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"no_name selectionShareable\">Mr Mullan said Irish employers were increasingly willing to sponsor non-EU job applicants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"no_name selectionShareable\">However, many companies face an uphill struggle as candidates from outside Ireland increasingly prefer cities such as Paris, Berlin and Lisbon over Dublin, due to cheaper prices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"no_name selectionShareable\">\u201cIt can be argued that Ireland often compares favourably on income tax, but we find that candidates in job-seeking mode tend to look at the headline comparisons \u2013 such as the cost of rent and gross salary \u2013 and give little consideration to how actual take-home pay compares between one country and another,\u201d said Mr Mullan.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe width=\"768\" height=\"432\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BeAuRs99mO4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The tech talent shortage continues unabated, according to a new survey that highlights a dearth of experienced candidates in Ireland.
